Writing tutoring for primary school children
A blank page can be the hardest part of school. We break writing into small, doable steps: getting ideas, saying a sentence out loud, writing it down and making it better. With a clear process, children write more and worry less.

Signs your child could use some support
- Not knowing what to write about, or how to start
- Writing very little, or one long sentence
- Spelling getting in the way of their ideas
- Messy or tiring handwriting
- Finding NAPLAN-style writing tasks stressful
How lessons work
Every lesson is 60 minutes, one-on-one, with a registered teacher in your home or at your local library. In the first lesson your teacher gets to know your child and finds exactly where they're up to. From there, each lesson builds on the last.
After every lesson you get a short written summary, so you always know what was covered and how to help at home.

- What we covered
- Short 'a' and 'e' sounds, blending three-letter words, and reading The Big Red Hen.
- How it went
- Mia blended 8 of 10 words on her own and read the last page with lovely expression.
- For home
- Play "I spy" with first sounds at dinner. Five minutes is plenty.
Writing tutoring questions
Can you help prepare for NAPLAN writing?
Yes. Year 3 and Year 5 students practise narrative and persuasive writing with planning strategies that take the stress out of the task.
My child hates writing. Where do you start?
With talk and with their interests. We keep early tasks short and achievable so your child has a win every lesson, then build from there.
Do you help with spelling?
Yes. Spelling is taught alongside phonics and writing, focusing on the patterns your child is ready for.
